Scheduled for seven innings, the Mudhens took the Loggers to an extra inning before losing 3-1 in eight innings. The crowd that turned out to view the game was estimated to be as large as 1,200 people. If you missed it, you missed a great ball game. Keep an eye out here for more news on this topic--a DVD of the game is planned. Thanks to WPRE radio for broadcasting the game and to Peoples Bank and TruValue Hardware for making the broadcast possible. Thanks, also, to all the volunteers that made the game possible.
Thursday Night League: Games rained out on May 25 have been rescheduled for May 31. Times remain as previously scheduled, though the schedule has been revised to begin games at 6:30 PM instead of the original 6:00 PM. This change affects all games for the remainder of the season.
La Crosse Loggers: The La Crosse Loggers will come to Prairie du Chien on May 29, 2006. Activities at the park will start at 1:00 PM when local little league teams will scrimmage. The Loggers game will begin at 4:00 PM. The opponent will be a group of All-Stars from the Prairie du Chien region. Watch here for names of local players and for a detailed schedule of events. There are now plans for a "long-ball" batting practice beginning at 2:30 PM.Q94 plans to broadcast the game. Details for all of the above will be released as available.
Organizational Meeting: There will be an organizational meeting for adult summer leagues on March 29 at 7:30 PM at the Prairie du Chien City Hall. All interested parties are welcome to attend. Of special interest is an attempt to establish a Women's Fast-Pitch League this year. No upper age has been set for that league, so anyone interested is asked to come to the meeting.
Tentative 2006 Schedules Announced: St. Feriole Island Park, Inc. has announced a tentative park schedule for the summer of 2006. Among the highlights are the Prairie du Chien High School Softball and JV Baseball will be played at the park this year, a men's limited arc tournament May 19-21, the La Crosse Loggers vs. an area All-Star team on May 29, a men's semi-fast tournament June 23-25, an adult co-ed tournament July 21-3, and the American Legion Regional Tournament on July 26-30. There will again be adult leagues on Tuesday and Thursday nights and little leagues on Monday and Wednesday. American Legion will be playing their schedule on Dillman Field again this year. Watch here for details on these and other events at St. Feriole Island Park in 2006.
Third Field Named: The George Family Foundation has agreed to donate $50,000 and has claimed the rights to name our third field. Henceforth, the south softball field will be referred to as the "George Family Foundation Field," or the short version--"George Field." Their generous contribution allows us to install lights on the field. The poles are already here and in position to go up. Now the ground needs to either freeze solid again, or we'll have to wait until it dries out a bit in the spring. The end result is that we will be able to play more games and possibly add leagues to the park this year and in the following years. Thanks to the George Family Foundation!
